About the Course

In this course, students will develop their problem-solving skills by applying the four basic operations to real-world scenarios involving positive multi-digit decimals and positive fractions, including mixed numbers. They will be challenged to analyze and break down complex problems into smaller, more manageable steps in order to arrive at a solution. By extending their understanding of multiplication and division, students will also learn to compute products and quotients of positive fractions by positive fractions, including mixed numbers, with procedural fluency.

The course aims to build upon students' prior knowledge and understanding of basic arithmetic operations and apply them to more advanced mathematical concepts. By introducing real-world problems, students will be able to see the practical applications of these mathematical operations and develop a deeper understanding of how they can be used in everyday situations.

Through engaging in problem-solving activities, students will not only improve their mathematical skills but also develop critical thinking and analytical skills. They will learn to identify and interpret relevant information from a problem, devise a plan to solve it, and execute the necessary steps to arrive at a solution. The focus on procedural fluency will enable students to efficiently and accurately compute products and quotients of positive fractions, including mixed numbers, thereby enhancing their overall mathematical proficiency.
