About the Course

In this 9-week course, students will engage in a variety of mathematical concepts and skills. The primary objective of the course is to develop a strong understanding of algebraic expressions and equations. Students will learn to rewrite the sum of two composite whole numbers with a common factor as a common factor multiplied by the sum of two whole numbers. This skill will be achieved through the use of the distributive property, which allows for the generation of equivalent expressions.

Additionally, students will learn to translate written descriptions into algebraic expressions and vice versa. This skill is essential for effectively communicating mathematical ideas and solving real-world problems. Throughout the course, students will also practice evaluating algebraic expressions using substitution and order of operations, ensuring accuracy and precision in their calculations.

Furthermore, the course will focus on applying the properties of operations to generate equivalent algebraic expressions with integer coefficients. This skill is crucial for simplifying complex expressions and solving equations. Students will develop a strong foundation in solving equations and inequalities, starting with one-step equations in one variable and gradually progressing to more complex equations involving decimals or fractions.

Finally, the instruction will emphasize the use of algebraic reasoning, drawings, and mental math to determine unknowns. This approach encourages critical thinking and problem-solving skills, enabling students to tackle mathematical challenges with confidence. Overall, this 9-week course aims to provide students with a solid understanding of algebraic concepts and their practical applications, fostering mathematical proficiency and analytical thinking.
