About the Course

In this course, learners will acquire the skills necessary to collect and represent numerical data. They will be introduced to various methods such as tables, line graphs, and line plots, which allow for the clear visualization of data. The course emphasizes the importance of accurately identifying the origin and axes in a coordinate system, as well as the ability to plot and label ordered pairs in the first quadrant of the coordinate plane.


One of the key components of the instruction is the connection between two-column tables and coordinates on a coordinate plane. By understanding how data is organized in a table, learners will be able to transfer that information onto a coordinate plane, creating a visual representation of the data. This connection allows for a deeper understanding of the relationship between the two formats and enhances the learners' ability to interpret and analyze numerical data.


Additionally, the instruction in this course focuses on the connection between the number line and the 𝑥- and 𝑦-axes. By understanding how the number line relates to the coordinate plane, learners will develop a solid foundation in coordinate geometry. This understanding is crucial in accurately plotting ordered pairs and interpreting their meaning on the coordinate plane.


Throughout the course, learners will work with coordinate planes that have axes scaled by whole numbers. This helps to reinforce the concept of whole numbers and their relationship to the coordinate system. The ordered pairs used in exercises and examples will also contain only whole numbers, allowing learners to practice interpreting and analyzing numerical data with a focus on whole-number values.


By the end of this 6-week course, learners will not only be proficient in collecting and representing numerical data using various methods, but they will also be able to interpret that data. They will be able to determine key statistical measures such as the mean, mode, median, and range, providing them with the necessary tools to make informed decisions based on numerical data.
