About the Course

During the duration of this course, learners will delve into the intricacies of fractions, specifically exploring the connections between different fractions and the correlation between fractions and decimals. The lessons will encompass a range of topics, such as employing decimal notation to express fractions with denominators of 10 or 100, encompassing mixed numbers and fractions exceeding a value of 1.

Additionally, learners will learn to utilize fractional notation, specifically with denominators of 10 or 100, to represent decimals. The instructional approach will prioritize the development of a conceptual understanding, achieved through the utilization of manipulatives, visual models, number lines, and equations.

A key aspect of this course is the ability to decompose fractions, including mixed numbers and fractions greater than one, into a sum of fractions with the same denominator. This decomposition can be achieved in multiple ways, utilizing various tools such as objects, drawings, and equations. By engaging in this process, learners will not only strengthen their understanding of fractions but also enhance their problem-solving skills and ability to approach mathematical concepts from different perspectives.

The course is designed to span a period of six weeks, providing learners with ample time to grasp the fundamental concepts of fractions and decimals. Through the combination of theoretical explanations, practical applications, and hands-on activities, learners will leave the course equipped with a comprehensive understanding of the relationships between different fractions, as well as the ability to confidently manipulate and represent fractions and decimals in various forms.
