About the Course

Science of Reading emphasizes the importance of explicitly teaching phonemic awareness, which is the ability to recognize and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Phonics instruction, which involves teaching the relationship between sounds and letters, is also a fundamental component. During this course, our young readers explore the fundamental components to reading and engage in activities that bring stories to life.

  • Phonemic Awareness Activities: Engage students in interactive activities such as rhyming games, sound blending, and phoneme segmentation to develop their ability to recognize and manipulate individual sounds in spoken words.

  • Multisensory Learning: Utilize multisensory techniques, such as incorporating movement, visuals, and tactile experiences, to reinforce phonemic awareness concepts.

  • Phonics Instruction: Introduce systematic phonics instruction, emphasizing the relationship between sounds and letters. Use structured lessons to teach sound-symbol associations and decoding skills.
